     The top picture is of the whole outcrop looking east, toward the Blue Ridge. This picture to the right is the eastern end of the outcrop where we spent most of our time looking. More detail below.

     Western end of the outcrop showing the strong cleavage that runs through the rocks, but is best expressed here.

Description and Interpretation: Quartz rich sandstones interbedded with shales (now metamorphosed). A few beds of quartz granules present. Most sandstones/gravels massive, or graded. Occasional laminations (HVL's) at the tops of some units.
     Interpretations are proximal Bouma Sequences in a Submarine Fan.
     Can you draw a time-energy graph of the energy in this environment? Can you place this formation in a tectonic setting?
