Hardness: 1.5-2.5
Cleavage: Poor, two directions
Fracture: Conchoidal, very brittle
Crystals: Orthorhombic; usually steep bipyramids, sometimes tabular; also granular, fibrous, compact, earthy; reniform, stalactitic, incrusting
