History of a Foreland Basin




Stage one is before the collision that produces the mountain., such as in Stage G to Stage H. In this model the foreland is a divergent continental margin, tectonically very stable, and the drawing above represents the shallow carbonate environments present there.
     We can put this cross section into a tectonic context by looking at a tectonic cross section of either an early divergent margin, of full divergent margin.
