     Want to see an example of a sedimentary rock, and you know its name (or all you know is its name)? This is the place. The specimens vary a lot in their quality. We did not try to find the best, most pristine examples available. Instead we looked for representative specimens, many of which just came out of study trays. Also, many of the images come from outcrops so you can see what the rocks look like in their natural setting.
      And, because many rocks vary widely in their appearance we are, over time, going to add as many different examples of a type as we can find.

Carbonate Classification
     Carbonates come in such variety and diversity that only the main types are listed here. Mixed types are forced into one category or another. Also, some rock types are much more common than others and thus some rocks listed below are not represented. We have also mixed rock names from different keys although they may refer to the same thing.
