Description
This is a saw cut view across the rock; you can see the saw cut on the left side of the handspecimen image. This view nicely shows the schistose foliation in the rock. The folded layering is clearly visible, and the dark minerals are evenly scattered throughout the specimen. If this were a gneiss the dark and light minerals would be separated into distinct layers. The large white layer is a quartz vein cutting through the rock.
