Kyanite is best recognized by its blue, bladed crystals, although it often shows up as masses of intergrown crystals (as in this specimen), or as even smaller crystals.
Blue, white, colorless; vitreous (glassy) luster; usually in bladed crystals; prismatic cleavage: perfect lengthwise, good in second direction; hardness lengthwise 4-5, across width 6-7.
