Fused quartz sand grains. Typically white or gray, although other pale colors are common; rarely a darker color.

Description
In this close up we can just begin to detect the individual quartz sand grains that compose the rock, but here they are fused together and will tend to break across the grains rather than between them.
This is a typical quartzite. They are dense, hard rocks, generally uniform in texture.
