History of a Foreland Basin




Basin subsidence is now very slow and the mountains are at their maximum height. The large influx of sediments builds a clastic wedge out into the basin. The submarine fan is large, but toward the foreland enough sediment has come in to shallow the basin up to a shelf environment fed by rivers at the base of the mountain.
