Files Containing Wilson Cycle Cross Sections and Descriptions Below are a series of Power Point presentations and other files and links concerning the Wilson Cycle created by Lynn Fichter, Eric Pyle, and Steve Whitmeyer. First are the Power Points, followed by some pdf files of the cross sections that can be used as handouts, and finally links to resources on line. Power Point Presentations Wilson Cycle Cross Sections - Master with three sizes of each stage Below are links to two Power Points Fichter uses in his Geology 230 historical geology class. They are the complete set of slides containing the basic Wilson Cycle cross sections, but lots of other cross sections, diagrams, and pictures of each developing stage. I have removed the embedded fonts I use so the fonts may go crazy on your computer. I have not altered these Power Points from the way I use them. > There are page numbers on some of the slides that bounce in when the slide opens. These are page numbers in the notebook of illustrations my students use in the course. Just ignore or delete them. > Also some of the slides are hidden; I have used them at times in the past but have quit using them for some reason. > There are human interest slides scattered throughout, just because I like talking about those things. > Some slides are review slides harkening back to subjects we covered earlier in the semester. I use this as an opportunity to remind students of the information, and to illustrate how that knowledge is applied to understand Earth evolution and history. Wilson Cycle - Part One Wilson Cycle - Part Two Journal Article and Web Site Steven J. Whitmeyer, Lynn S. Fichter and Eric J. Pyle, 2008, New directions in Wilson Cycle concepts: Supercontinent and Tectonic Rock Cycles Wilson Cycle Web site - This web site goes through the Wilson Cycle stage by stage, describing the processes and rocks generated at each stage, with links to additional figures. The Wilson Cycle cross sections are an order set. Handouts Wilson Cycle Guide - a description of each stage with processes, rock generation, and modern examples. This was written by Pyle and Fichter to accompany a Wilson Cycle poster that has been published. I have removed most of the figures from the manuscript, and some of the introductory material. Wilson Cycle - One Page Version - color versions of the cross sections, including portrait and landscape versions. Wilson Cycle - Two Page Version - color versions of the cross sections, including portrait and landscape versions. Wilson Cycle Analysis - copies of Cross Section I alphabetically or numerically labeled to be used to deconstruct the stages and rocks generated. Wilson Cycle Analysis - Answer Sheets - copies of Cross Section I alphabetically or numerically labeled to be used to deconstruct the stages and rocks generated. |
